Professional home-based dog grooming by Carmen
What we offer
at the Mutterie
The Mutterie Grooming House is just that...
a house! Carmen welcomes your furry
companion into her home where they
receive one-on-one attention, and since she
is the only groomer, your pup will always
be met with a familiar face.
Appointments are booked mindfully to allow
for a relaxed, low-stress grooming experience
that will leave your pup feeling as great as they
look when they are done!
It’s a great environment for puppies who are
being introduced to grooming, older dogs who
need extra patience and care, dogs with physical
limitations as well as dogs who are fearful or
anxious.
If your dog requires any special considerations,
please let us know. Carmen is happy to do what
she can to accommodate dogs and has innovative
solutions for many physical and behavioural issues.
We are licensed and insured, so you can have peace
of mind when trusting us with your companion.

(Chihuahua, Dachshund, Boston Terrier, etc.)
~30 min-1 hour or $22-$45

Policies
Parking- Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your appointment time unless otherwise discussed beforehand. As a home-based business, only one parking spot is allocated for business use (see location tab for details), and the timing of drop-off and pick-up is important so that only one vehicle is using the parking spot at a time.
Cancellation fee and lateness- A $30 cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations/rescheduling within 24 hours of the appointment time and for missed appointments. Additionally, if you are more than 15 minutes late for an appointment it may need to be rescheduled. Please contact me if you are running late to see if I can still accommodate you.
Parasites including lice, fleas and ticks- If parasites are discovered on your pet during grooming the groom will be halted and you will be called to pick them up as soon as possible. Repeat offenders will be charged a $30.00 clean up fee.
Vaccinations- I do not require vaccination records as all dogs are kept separate and all surfaces are cleaned between dogs. However, there is still a small chance that your dog could be exposed to communicable viruses, parasites or bacteria during their appointment. I encourage up-to-date vaccinations and preventative parasite treatments but this is ultimately the responsibility of the dog’s guardian.
Matting- Small mats can generally be brushed or shaved out, however moderate-severe matting will be shaved with a blade as short as is necessary to remove the matting safely. Brushing out matting will increase time spent on the groom and therefore the overall cost at a rate of $7.50 per every additional 10 minutes.
Double coated dogs- Shaving double coated dogs can damage the coat and result in skin and health issues. For this reason this is not a service that I am comfortable providing. Often, a good bath and brush out and heavy trim of feathers, skirt, pants, etc. creates a similar aesthetic to shaving and reduces shedding without damaging the coat.
Working One-on-One- I find that having dog parents present during grooms can be distracting for myself and the dog that I'm working with. For this reason I prefer to work one-on-one with my dog clients.
Refusal of Services- In the case that your pet is excessively stressed, aggressive, or otherwise in any state that compromises their own health and safety or mine as their groomer, I reserve the right to adjust or halt services at any time in the grooming process.
COVID-19 Precautions
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic I have implemented procedures to keep my clients and myself safe during interactions at The Mutterie.
All surfaces (door handles, payment terminal, tables, etc.) are being disinfected between each client.
Drop-off and pick-up can be completed outside if you prefer. Click here if you would like to see pictures of the space.
E-transfer is available for payment to keep interactions brief and avoid any contact with the payment terminal (debit/credit/Apple Pay/Google Pay will also continue to be accepted). Cash is accepted, but please note that I do not carry a float and therefore do not have change.
New clients can print and fill out a Client Information Form and a Waiver and bring them to their first appointment or e-mail pictures or a digital copy before their appointment to reduce interaction at drop off.
Forms
Please feel free to print and fill out these forms or fill out a digital copy and email them to themutteriebookings@gmail.com before your first appointment. Copies will always be available at The Mutterie, so you also have the option of completing them at the time of your appointment.

A bit about the owner
Carmen is a lifelong dog lover who followed her love of animals into a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Animal Biology. Since she was already there, she decided to stick around and get a second degree in Psychology, too! This has given her an understanding of animal learning and behaviour which she has carried with her into providing patient, compassionate and knowledgeable care to the animals she works with.
She has worked with a variety of exotic and domestic species over the last several years and eventually found herself grooming dogs. A couple of years into the mainstream grooming industry, Carmen decided that busy, crowded grooming shops just weren’t for her, and sometimes they weren't the right fit for the dogs, either! She believes that dog grooming is best done one-on-one, in a quiet, low-stress atmosphere. What better place than in the comfort of her home?
Location
The Mutterie Grooming House is a home-based business located in North Edmonton at 13435 112 Street. The City of Edmonton requires that vehicles related to client visits be parked on our property, in this case, on our garage pad. Please proceed down the alley and look for "The Mutterie" sign on our fence. Our address, 13435, is also on our very old red garage. Please call or text Carmen when you arrive and she will come out to meet you. If you come to the back door please knock gently, as to not startle the dogs too much! Thank you!
